That is the best advice for a lot of things – “Just do it!”
“Tushy” grandma?? That end part made me laugh out loud :D

you KNOW I love making videos, but i am struggling with getting people to watch them. Some do really well and other just flop. I have yet to find that magic formula.

Is there a difference in the ones that flop versus the ones that do really well?

Hilarious! And awesome background by the way.

I *really* want to do videos for my brand because I know that it will take us to the next level especially showing the clothes in movement, studio tours, short films about our design concepts, and getting to know us, etc……buuuut since I still work full-time for another fashion company (in a completely different market than mine), I’m thinking that it might not be a good idea (?)

Embracing the Nike philosophy is exactly what I need to do right now, but I’m still afraid to take that leap.

I’m a little confused. You don’t think it would be a good idea, because your full-time employer might see the videos and that would be bad? If so, then I get it. You don’t want to jeopardize your employment and that’s smart.

I thought about it but my problem is that english is not my first language and I write better than I talk. I’m really conscious about that so I’m not confidente enough at the moment to go with it. Maybe some diy/crafty tutorials with music insted of words? :)

DIY and crafty tutorials with music would definitely work!

Your videos are always enjoyable. What type of video camera do you use (or am I correct in assuming your husband is your videographer)?

    • April January 26, 2012 at 8:38 am #

Thanks Marian! I use a HD Flip Cam—really, really simple to use. My husband does help, but I use a tripod during taping.

Making videos is definitely a big leap . I did my first one for omhg giveaway – and it meant i step outside my comfort zone. But it connected me to so many people.

funnily enough, my post today is a video – a short one I put together with photos – in progress shoots of a painting. I thought it’d be a fun way to share my creative process with people interested in what I do.
Thanks for sharing , April. Your videos are always fun and informative. LOVE the background, is it fabric or a painting ?

@Tabassum – Could you do a video of only your tours, process – just without you in it. Do a voice over maybe – that way you don’t need to ‘star’ in it ? just an idea.

It definitely means stepping out your comfort zone for most people, but once you do it a few times, it gets easier. Thanks for sharing your experience. I agree that it helps make those connections stronger!

Oh, and the background is fabric! I’m going to make a skirt out of it :)

Tushy girl here! Thanks for the shout out and the awesome advice!! Maybe this weekend i will try out a few videos, but that probably means I need to do my makeup… :)

    Thanks April!

Good morning! What kind of skirt? Does it really matter, it will look great! Love the colors!
    Your biggest fan!

    OK Mrs. Bowles,
I Vlogged. (lindasparkmansblog.blogspot.com) I’m entirely humbled, and will probably suffer humiliation, but I have to admit it was rather freeing. I mean writing and editing, and searching for artwork….I didn’t have to do any of it this way. Thanks for the encouragment.

On my to-do list…thanks for the confidence booster. Also, I just think it’s awesome that your husband converses with you at the end of these.
