Date #1: S’mores and National Championship Game

S'mores

I had big plans for our first official date of 2013, but I’ve been feeling under the weather. So, my husband offered to pick up stuff to make s’mores which neither one of us have eaten in years.

We changed into comfy clothes, snuggled, watched the national championship game, and ate s’mores {ingredients all vegan and gluten-free, of course} that we made with help from our wood burning stove.

You might think this doesn’t sound super romantic, but we both love college football. We planned our wedding around a football game if that helps you understand how much we love it. Plus, my husband got his bachelor’s degree from the University of Alabama.

Grandiose plans don’t always work out, but I really enjoyed our s’mores date.

Want the marshmallows not-burnt? Don’t roast in fire. Wait until fire has died down and the logs are all red. Toast the marshmallow in front of that. Browned perfection. (My Dad taught me that.) (And I haven’t had S’mores in years, either.)

I like them a little burnt–my husband doesn’t! Good tip.
