How Blogging Can Increase Your Business Success

- September 1, 2010 | by April -

When I sit down to write a blog post, I’m overwhelmed with excitement that anything is possible. Just knowing that I can share useful content with whoever wants to consume it gives me pleasure. I’ve been passionate about blogging for years now, so I’m a little biased—but it can seriously help your business, if you use it in the right ways.

Providing content on a regular basis gives your potential customers, current customers, and contacts a way to get to know you, like you, and trust you. Understanding this is huge. I mean, it’s big time. Your blog can be the social hub where your followers can interact, you build brand loyalty among your customers, and you give away free content that establishes you as an authority in your niche.

One giant mistake that creative entrepreneurs make is blogging just to blog without having any goal or reason behind it. Most blogs are completely abandoned or not updated for weeks {or, gasp, months}, which can make a bad impression on your potential and current customers. When you decide to start a blog for your business, know why you’re doing it. This will help you create compelling content, establish a community among your followers, and give you a reason to keep going.

If you have to put a lot of hard work into blogging, you probably want to know how it can help your business success. Here are 5 ways creative entrepreneurs can benefit from blogging on a regular basis:

  1. Connect with others in your niche. When you continuously put up relevant content, other people in your niche will notice. They might send you emails or leave comments on your blog. This is a great way to start conversations and build relationships with people that you can help and that can help you in the future. Working together can create endless possibilities.
  2. Connect with your customers. You can engage your customers in comments and forums, get to know the problems that you can help them solve, and build rapport.
  3. Establish credibility and authority. With each compelling and engaging post, you further your credibility in your niche. This can lead to speaking gigs, teaching opportunities, book deals and more.
  4. Attract customers. If you write content that people want to read, they’ll pass it along through social media sites such as Twitter and Facebook. Their followers {who don’t know you} who trust them, come on over to check out your blog. Now, you’ve attracted new potential customers who wouldn’t have found you otherwise.
  5. Make more money. If people have the opportunity to get to know, like, and trust you through your blog, they’re more likely to buy something from you. This leads to bigger profits and happy customers.

[…] Blogging can increase your business success, but that doesn’t mean that you should blog. In my honest opinion, if you’re not going to treat your business blog as an extension of your business and put effort into to it, it’s not worth starting. In fact, I think a crappy blog could actually hurt your business. I know I make impressions about a person’s business from her blog, and if the impression isn’t good, then I’m less likely to buy.
