April! That was wonderful and very inspirational, Thank you so much! I have that little voice speaking loud and clear lately because I’m starting a new venture. You have reminded me to keep it in check and live my dreams!
    Thank you so much!

      Hey Deanna,

Our “inner critics” love to get in our heads when we’re starting something new. I’m so glad you’re living your dreams πŸ™‚

Thank you April! I was lit up by creating my work and opening my Art Fire studio. Then a difficult personal situation knocked me off course by taking most of my time and energy.

But I’m on my way back, thanks in part to your inspirational message.

Thanks for being brave enough and confident enough to “call a spade a spade”. I think everyone’s inner critic just got a little quieter.

    Cheers

      Hey Louise,

I really appreciate that. We all have that voice trying to keep us down–telling us that we’re not good enough. Instead of pretending like it’s not there, we have to talk about it in order to take away that power.

I think there are hurdles if you make a living doing what you love but it is SO WORTH IT! If people are finding it a grind to make art for a living then maybe they are making art for money. It takes a while to figure out that to make GOOD work, you need to make what is in your heart and not what you think will be an easy sell. Every time you think, “what if nobody likes it?” you can just as easily think,”what if everybody likes it?” After a while the latter will become more comfortable and there will be less hurdles.

Thank you so much for adding to this conversation Linda. I love this, “Every time you think, β€œwhat if nobody likes it?” you can just as easily think,”what if everybody likes it?” After a while the latter will become more comfortable and there will be less hurdles.” That’s right on.

    “OMGsh!!!!!” “OMGsh!!!!!!”

    “THANK YOU!!!!” “THANK YOU!!!!”

I have been fighting that inner critic so much. Sometimes it paralyzes me, causes me to miss days of work. When I am “lit up inside;” nothing gets me distracted. I map out my day and stick to it. Even if it starts at 4am. (“aughhh”…) But those “demons” I call them; (i like “inner critic” better)…. you just nailed it on the head!

Doing a video blog….. “OMGsh!” I am a visual person. That was a fantastic idea! “You” touched my heart; I cried. I cried for being able to feel real and smiled for being normal as an artist. I still stumble upon what to say when someone new I meet asks me what I do for a living… I’m a… (I look down…)”I have an on line store and sell my art.”…look up to see them bring there eyeballs back after rolling there eyes and feeling sorry for my husband. (That stirs up lots of cuss words with in me!)

You lift me up; you touched my heart, I feel real,
    “Thank you!”
(my therapist would be proud! πŸ™‚

      Hey Dazy,

      You’re so welcome!!!

I want you to get confident in calling yourself an artist. And, believe me when I say that we’ve all been in the situation where someone doesn’t understand what we do and rolls their eyes, thinking we’re a little crazy. Some people just don’t get it. I just laugh it off and know that I’m happy doing what I do. If that makes me crazy, so be it πŸ™‚

It makes me soooo happy that this video was so inspiring to you. That makes my day.
