Hi April,
Wishing you a wonderful time delivering your two marvelous presentations; wish I was going to be there, but I’ll be listening and I’ll be back here. Thanks.
April,
Your presentations were great today! I really enjoyed them & learned a lot! Can’t wait for the group coaching to begin!
On another note…newsletters…I have a newsletter, but I’ve noticed that a lot of creative entrepreneurs offer a freebie when you sigh up for their newsletter. What types of things are good to give to subscribers when they do opt in?
Freebies can be anything from a video tour of your art studio to a downloadable worksheet to a series of articles to a basic tutorial–anything that your target market will want enough to hand over their email addresses. But, it doesn’t have to be as in-depth as an ebook or anything like that–but ebooks work, too!
Were you reading my mind? I was just asking myself this question since this is one of our tasks on the program. What if I do not have emails of customers? I did send out a request from my facebook freinds to help evaluate my site and put in their email so I can start sending out a newsletter to someone even if it is only my friends to start with. i hope that was ok.
Your presentations at the symposium were good yesterday. I learned so much form all the speakers and now have so much to do and so little time. Who needs sleep anyway?
You can’t add emails of anyone unless they request to be on your email newsletter list. The best way to collect emails is to add an opt-in to the sidebar of your blog/website. Then call your readers to action at the end of your blog posts by encouraging them to sign up for your newsletter. Also, promote it on social media.
Whenever a customer buys something from you, send them a thank you email and at the end of the email say something like, “If you’d like to stay updated with my shop, get insider information, and notifications of sales, sign up for my weekly email newsletter.” Most of your customers will want to sign up if you give them the option. You can’t go back in time and do this–but you can do it going forward and it’ll make a HUGE difference!
Hi! Is there a way to see the Etsy symposium now? I wasn’t able to be at my computer yesterday during the presentation but I would LOVE to hear what you had to say. Thanks!
I came over from your Guest Post on Jess’ site. Enjoyed the interview so wanted to check out your site. My Mother was a jeweller and made beautiful silver and gold pieces. She now does beaded work as it is kinder to her work-weary hands. At 88 years young she still has heaps of creative ideas to bring to fruition 🙂
For myself, I was interested that you sell on Etsy. I put my sourced hand-made natural lavender products on there. However, I have found as it is in the US, not really working well for me. The postage is the sticking point. So expensive from Australia to the rest of the world. Locally the products sell themselves 🙂 Have now decided to diversify as that seems to be the answer for my fledgling business.
I began a newsletter just a few weeks ago. Great for building a list and I offer more tips and there will be competitions and special deals for my subscribers. Thanks for sharing April. Appreciated.
Just watched the Etsy symposium… WOW. So glad I stopped by to check it out. I love listening to video streams whilst I’m working on some ‘busy stuff’. It doesn’t always work, I can’t answer emails and take in what I”m listening to. I can facebook and listen though, that works a treat. Great stuff, thanks.
I also love to listen to podcasts and video streams when I’m doing stuff where I don’t have to be fully focused. You should check out BlogcastFM if you haven’t already. The podcasts are jam packed with useful information.

Thanks Adelita! It was so much fun–but it was awesome that people from home could watch live 🙂

Thanks! I saw your post today about how to get more newsletter subscribers and it answered my question! Thanks for answering it twice though!

Hi Patricia!
Thanks for stopping by 🙂 and sharing some of your story.
It’s great that you know what’s standing in your way and are taking steps to diversify. An email newsletter will definitely help!
