Wanna take the BORING out of business planning?

- June 6, 2011 | by April -

Do you make business planning fun? I mean really fun–like the kinda fun that you have when you catch snowflakes on your tongue or when you take that delicious first bite of a vanilla cupcake that’s piled high with creamy, chocolate frosting and glittering pink sprinkles. Or, does the idea of marketing, writing product descriptions, or planning out the next year of your business sound like tasks that you’d like to put off–forever, if possible.

When I first created my business, I thought I had to get super serious during “business planning” time. Now, I make that time fun.

I get messy. I play in my creative business journal. I take a notebook outside and watch the horses in the pasture directly in front of our front yard. I doodle. I brainstorm crazy, out-of-this-world ideas–and then I find ways to make them happen.

Maybe you already enjoy the business planning aspect of your creative business. Maybe you don’t. Either way, Mayi and I have put together something that’ll make you think twice about the way that you plan for your biz.

If you want to join us, we’re providing 4 days filled with biz planning resources for FREE. What kind of resources? I’m glad ya asked:

  • An in-depth discussion where we give you insider secrets on how we plan our businesses and make it fun.
  • A sneak peek at part of the creative guide we’ve put together. In this sneak peek, you’ll get an article and 3 worksheets that’ll help you determine how to make more money and build a stable income.
  • An interview with Danielle Spurge where she talks about her creative business planning processes, how she keeps her creative space inspiring, and the techniques that she uses to help with productivity and inspiration.
  • A mini class where April will teach you a concept that she uses with all her long-term consulting clients that will help you develop the style of your business without spending any money.
  • Plus, you’ll have an opportunity to pre-order the guide at a super special, once-in-a-lifetime discounted price!

If you want in, all you gotta do is sign up here. Yes, it’s really that easy.

Then, you’ll get all those juicy and free biz planning resources delivered to your inbox over the next four days. I hope you take us up on this offer cause business planning should be like the moment that you walk on the beach feeling the sand on your toes, see the blue water glistening, and smell the salt in the air. If it felt like that, you wouldn’t put off business planning–you’d look forward to it. And, your business would be better off for it.

April, thank you so much for your part in putting together this resource! I’ve been so intrigued to find out what this surprise was going to be, but I never guessed it would be something like this. Having looked at where my business is and where it is headed in recent weeks, I’ve found that I really am suffering from a lack of focus. I need to plan better in order to really progress in my business. But somehow it has always seemed so complicated, and such a chore! This is exactly what I need to get my thinking cap on and get myself moving! I’ve already signed up and I can’t wait to receive all the goodies, and find out about purchasing the guide on Thursday!

    Thanks again!

Yay Suzi! I’m glad we came at the right time. Lack of focus can be a huge problem–and one that lots of us creative entrepreneurs have struggled with. I’ll give you one tip that has helped me tremendously: Pick 3 high leverage tasks to complete each day and do those first. High leverage tasks are the ones that will increase your success {hint: make ya more money} quickly. So, some of those tasks might include: making new products, adding new products to your shop…the ones that will give you results.

Thanks, April! That’s great advice, and it got me thinking. I actually spend so much time “researching”, because I’m aware of how much I have to learn. But none of that learning is going to do any good in the long run if I don’t spend time on my products, and of course photography – my current bugbear! I need to focus on those things more and build up my shop inventory. I have 9 half finished products on my desk right now. I need to get those finished and listed!

We all do it. I could research and learn new things ALL day long. I still have to limit myself–so that’s why I have that do 3 high leverage tasks rule. There are so many amazing blogs, websites, and information products–but taking action is the only thing that’ll get ya where you want to go.

    Hi April-

I dropped a comment on Mayi’s blog about how fantastic the Mini Creative Biz pack was that both of you created and I thought that I needed to drop some love here too 🙂 Thanks so much for that! You’ve both done such a wonderful job and really went above and beyond what a lot of your readers expect-or at least what I do. I’ve already jumped on the guide and started to do some soul-searching and some much needed planning for our business. I really want to make it into my full-time job and not something that I’m doing on the side. I set my goal for the end of this year, so let’s see what happens. But with all of the tools that both of you have provided me with, I know I have a good chance of getting my project of of the ground. Take care!
