Don’t you love seeing how other people spend their time? I sure do.
I always wonder how other creative entrepreneurs spend their work days. I want to know how much time they spend on social media, if they prioritize exercising {and what they do for exercise}, and when they stop working for the day. That’s why I’m changing the Follow Friday series into A Day In the Life Of….series.
I’ve really enjoyed featuring creative entrepreneurs each week, but I’ve also realized that I have a little gift for getting people to take action—and helping people get from A to B and increase their productivity. So, I want to focus even more content on productivity, time management, and taking action. This series is a piece of that.
Each week, I’ll feature a creative entrepreneur and they’ll share one of their work days from the moment they wake up to the moment they fall asleep with us.
I’m gonna kick it off by sharing one of my work days with you.
5:30 am: Alarm goes off. Press the snooze button.
5:35 am: Alarm goes off again. Fight the urge to press the snooze button again and get my butt out of bed. Get dressed for the gym.
5:45 am: Have a little protein shake with my husband.
6:15 am: Gym. Running on the indoor track for 30 minutes and then power walking on the treadmill while reading The Help for 15 minutes.
7:15 am: Pull back into the driveway and love on my dogs who are waiting at the backdoor for us. Make tofu scrambles with spinach and red pepper, gluten-free toast, and green juice for breakfast while my husband feeds and plays ball with our dogs.
7:45 am: Eat breakfast with my man.
8:15 am: Singing and dancing in the shower. Get ready. Throw some laundry in the wash.
9:00 am: Review my to-do list for the day and get started on a guest post.
10:30 am: Send completed guest post and jump on to Twitter for a quick break. Get up and dance to Sexy and I Know It by LMFAO to get my body moving.
10:50 am: Put the laundry in the dryer and work on a new class for ARTrepreneur.
12:00 pm: Make a quick sandwich with hummus, sprouts, and tomatoes and throw together some cut up veggies for a side salad. Watch part of Desperate Housewives while I eat lunch.
12:40 pm: Feed my doggies lunch and play ball with them outside.
1:00 pm: Check Twitter and Facebook for five minutes before responding to emails.
1:30 pm: Continue working on a class for ARTrepreneur.
3:00 pm: Get up and dance to Super Bass by Nicki Minaj. Give my sweet doggies a treat. Hop on Twitter. Call my man to see how his day is going. Check the mail and pet the horses in the pasture next to our front yard.
3:30 pm: Post a new photography tutorial in ARTrepreneur.
3:45 pm: Work on next Monday’s blog post.
4:30 pm: Check and respond to email.
4:50 pm: Fold laundry and put it away.
5:10 pm: Sit down to finish the work day by reading a business book like Start with Why by Simon Sinek
5:50 pm: Feed my dogs dinner and then play ball with them outside.
6:15 pm: Cut up potatoes and get them roasting in the oven.
6:30 pm: Husband gets home from work. Talk about our days and continue cooking dinner which consists of chickpea cutlets, roasted potatoes and gravy, and asparagus.
7:00 pm: Eat dinner, enjoy each other’s company, and watch Grey’s Anatomy.
8:45 pm: Get in bed. Husband watches television and I read The Help.
9:45 pm: Lights out, television off, time for sleep.
And, there you have it! That’s one of my days from start to finish.
I love reading about your day! I just finished The Help, isn’t is great?!
The Help was soooooooooooooo good! Loved it!
I had to stop reading and ask you… How can you get up at 5:30???
You’re my hero, for sure! 🙂
Hahahaha…it takes a lot of willpower for sure! It doesn’t happen every day, especially if my body is telling me that it needs more sleep, but I feel much better when I get a good workout in before my day starts.
This is such a great idea, because as someone who works from home without a boss overseeing my daily tasks, I very often wonder if I’m making good use of my time. I also wonder how I should fit exercise into my day, time with my dog, food, and everything else non-work related!
Thanks for sharing, I look forward to this series!
Yay! I’m so glad that other people think this is a fun idea 🙂
Can you please share your recipe for your chickpea cutlets and gravy?? Reading that part made me hungry 🙂 Looking forward to seeing more A Day in the Life…
Oh yum–chickpea cutlets are so super delicious. We got our recipe from Veganicom: The Ultimate Vegan Cookbook. And, we just make the gravy from a packet that we get at our grocery store that’s vegan and gluten-free.
I like this series, too… especially to see how other people handle normal energy ebbs and flows throughout day… my productivity peaks in the morning then briefer stretch in afternoon so I try to maximize that time for creating while using the sleepier times (post-lunch) – for catching up on reading, tweeting, etc.
I’m so glad! I think this is going to be such a fun/enlightening series. I’m a morning person, but I can get lots of work done in the afternoon, too. Once it hits about 4pm, my levels of concentration start to plummet.
I’m a morning person too! I’m glad someone else is up before the sun too! My friends think I’m nuts! I get so much done in the morning and once I have worked out I just feel better and can get tons done. After 4p, I avoid anything that involves complex thinking! That’s best left for mornings! 🙂 Thanks for sharing with us about one of your days! 😉
Yay for morning people! My friends think I’m sooooooo weird–they call me an old lady because I go to bed so early. Whenever we plan dinners together, they want to eat at like 8pm and I’m thinking, “I’m in bed at 8:45pm…that’s not gonna work.”
Clearly I must immediately seek out a copy of The Help! I’ve heard so many good reviews! 😉
You should! It’s a good one 🙂
I am SO jealous you live by a field with horses! I, too, read the help recently- couldn’t put it down ’til I was finished!
That was one of the reasons we picked this house! I love it 🙂
confession? I wish I lived next door to horses too! 🙂
I love your idea about “A day in the life…”. I’m starting a home-based jewelry business & I’ve been wondering how people can work at home and avoid the distractions (laundry, cleaning chores, tv watching, errands, etc). I realize I need to make a list of job tasks to do (maybe by day-of-the-week) or I won’t get any work done that brings in income!
You’re so right Carolyn. I know I could fill up all my time with errands and cleaning and television and such if I let myself. It can be adjustment at first, but if you get clear on what you want to accomplish each day, it’s easier to stay on task.
Great idea April finding ways to not work 16 hours a day would be great for me. Looking forward to hearing more on this.
I hope this series helps you with that!
Love the shift in focus. You know what would be super awesome? If someone actually videoed snippets of their day and then edited it and sent it through to you. It’d be fun to “see”.
Ohhhhhhhhhh….that would be a good one Jess! Love that idea.
😀 Hopefully you can talk some people into doing that.
