you’re right — it’s in the verbs!
I have issues saying the word “thesaurus” too!
thanks for the tips and the giggle 🙂
That word was driving me crazy… 🙂
Yes! simple, bit size tid bits that challenge me to create more and be more. this is why I follow your blog. thank you!
Awesome! So glad.
Haha, you had me cracking up at the end! THESAU…..
Great little tip – I’m getting your 365 tips at the moment, and I’m certain my writing has improved. Small steps make a big difference in the end!
Yay! That’s great to hear!
Hi April, that question stopped me in my tracks… Why did I decide to watch your video? (other than the fact that Wednesdays are now my eagerly awaited ‘April days’!)
You have the sizzle and that’s why I watch and listen to you but I totally get your idea about choosing memorable verbs. Thanks for that simple but key advice. I’m going to share that idea with my blogging friends.
Awww…thanks, Aisling! You know how to make a girl feel special.
Great video, awesome advice and love the visual injection that demonstrated the verbs of moving across the street! Get it chica!
Thanks Lauryn! Glad you enjoyed it.
This was such a great video! I love when you share practical tips that can improve my business immediately. Woohoo! It was super enlightening to learn that you spend 80% of your writing time actually revising what you wrote- that is something I needed to hear! Thanks! Off to pick up a thesaurus now!
Yay! So happy to hear it!
AWESOME TIPTOEING VIDEO! HA HA HA
Also, I love that lace collar, and how it looks on you, you babe!
and “the thethauruth” outtake might be the high point of my day.

p.s. I’m going to work “sizzle” into my next blog post! 🙂
Hahahahaha…thanks Angela!
P.S. Awesome!
This video is perfect timing. When you first start blogging, people talk about finding your voice. I think I was in that place after about 3 or 4 months after I started blogging. But lately, I’ve been feeling like my writing is a bit ‘vanilla’. Great when it’s ice cream, not so great when you are writing.
I’ve been trying to add a bit more oomph without it feeling forced or fake or like I’m copying someone else. To show a bit more of my real personality. I feel like I hold back a little bit or something.
Your video has given me some great ideas to turn vanilla into honey macadamia in a way that feels true and authentic.
I think the hardest part is giving your writing more personality without feeling forced or copying someone else’s voice…that’s a really good point.
Yep, I think it’s about the small changes and using words that you would normally use and stories that are yours.
I’ve had this page open for the past week, just waiting for a free moment to give it my undivided attention. 🙂 Thanks for the sizzling tip about the verbs! Love how clear you are in your explanations, and your demo on sprinting, marching, etc. was icing on the cake! I always use a thesaurus, as I notice that I tend to use the same word a lot in my blog posts. The word itself varies, but it is there, so I always circle those and go back and come up with different words. But the verb thing? Never thought about it so pointedly. I’ll definitely be aware of this going fwd. Thanks so much!
Sounds like you’re a busy woman, Laura! I know the feeling.
You’re so welcome! I’m glad it’s helpful. Those verbs can make a HUGE difference.
Thanks for the tip, and the laugh! I need to go back through all of my product descriptions because as you were talking I realized that I’m totally guilty of using pretty much the same thing over and over for my product descriptions (to the point that I sometimes copy and paste, then do minor editing to make it fit and not take as much time) Time to get a thesaurus, and get some spice into the descriptions
Thanks for ones marvelous posting! I definitely enjoyed reading it,
you can be a great author. I will make sure to bookmark
your blog and will eventually come back very soon.
I want to encourage that you continue your great work, have a nice afternoon!
