For the first time, my husband and I are hosting Christmas. My parents are traveling from Richmond, his sister is flying from Mississippi, and his mom lives a few minutes from us. We’ll all be together on Christmas, and I’m determined to make it an unforgettable holiday.
I’m in full on homemade holiday mode. For the past month, I’ve spent hours creating homemade gifts, and I still have some left that I’ll make this week. I’ve tested out holiday treat recipes like sugar cookies {will share tomorrow!} to verify that they’re super tasty. And, we’re ordering forest-friendly firewood, so we’ll feel cozy while opening presents near the wood burning stove.
What could make it even better? Handmade wrapping paper–that’s what!
I combined some of my favorite things: glitter, kraft paper, ribbon, and Mayi’s illustrated gift tags. I decided on this color palette: kraft paper brown, black, red, and silver.
First, I picked out the ribbon:
Then, I used a wine cork to stamp rolls of kraft paper and some kraft paper bags with red and black paint:
Because I wanted a non-uniform look, I stamped the paper a bunch before adding more paint. I love the end result. I also used a black Sharpie paint pen to write “joy” on some of the kraft paper and to write on the bags.
Oh, so beautiful!
But, have you seriously already wrapped that many presents! WOW! I have not wrapped a single one yet. Now I need to fight down panick mode! 😉
xox,
Ursula
P.S. Love the Mayi-stickers!
Thanks Ursula! Don’t worry–I usually leave the wrapping until a couple days before Christmas and my husband and I wrap together. But, I wanted to show off this wrapping paper, so I wrapped early.
Love this! I’ve actually got a post coming up on wrapping paper using brown paper grocery bags. I’ve been collecting them all month, confusing the baggers at the grocery store. They’ve even given me paper bags wrapped in two plastic bags a couple of times 🙂
There’s just something so pretty about stamped brown paper on presents. I love how you hotglued ribbon on too.
Thanks Nicky! That’s a good tip–to collect paper bags at the store. I loooooove glittery ribbon, and I think it looks really nice with the simple kraft paper.
Beautiful packages! Great minds think alike! This is how I’m doing our gifts this too – and I’ve been collecting paper bags too! Just like Nicky!
