Last week, I talked about the importance of taking what you learn and putting it into action.
A reader asked if I’d go into more detail about the organization process. So, that’s this week’s video topic.
I reveal the four tools I use and why I love them.
Side Note: After filming this video, I asked my husband to take some pictures of my outfit to use for another fashionology post. He sweetly indulged me even though he was on his lunch break and would probably rather be relaxing.
We headed outside, because I like outdoor pictures best. In our front yard, we have a cute little pine tree. I started striking poses in front of it and after my husband snapped about 30 pictures he said, “You look gigantic in front of that little pine tree.”
Ummmmm, gigantic? Not big. Not tall. GIGANTIC!
Thanks for making me feel good about myself! What woman wants to be described as gigantic in relation to anything? I don’t care if it’s a jelly bean you’re comparing me to. You better still say I look thin and beautiful.
Immediately, I could tell that he wished he could take it back from the regretful look in his eyes. And, when I gave him my super evil stare, he tried to make up for it by saying, “You could never look gigantic. That’s not what I meant. I just meant that the pine tree is so small.”
Too little too late. I won’t be posting those pictures.

P.S. I just received an email from Pinterest titled, Pins You’ll Love, and one is for Bacon Jam. I’m vegan. Fail. Don’t worry, Pinterest. I still love you.
Wow!! Great tips.
I’ve tried to get organized, but I’m such a Hot Mess!! (Ha.) I’m still trying though.
I’ve used Evernote, but never really checked it later on. Now, I send email links to myself and do something similar to you where I have Research Days (Wednesdays) to review the information that I’ve saved.
For Blog Post ideas, I have a small spiral notebook where I keep my ideas. And, if I have access to a computer, I go ahead and add a draft post with a title. I need to be better at writing down ideas — because I easily forget!
And, BTW, I’m sure you looked lovely in your photos!!
Thanks for sharing,
JK.
Thanks Jennifer! It sounds like you’re doing a decent job and you’re figuring out what works for you like emailing yourself links and adding drafts to your blog if you’re at your computer. That’s the most important step. If you try to follow how someone else does it and it’s not a good fit for you, then you definitely won’t keep it up.
Thanks for sharing your tips! I’m sure others will find them helpful, too.
Pinterest sends me crazy pins too. I’m also a vegan, but I haven’t gotten a bacon suggestion yet. Too funny!
I keep a huge list of possible blog post topics and then I spend time each week reviewing my editorial calendar and choosing the topics I want to cover next. I also clean up my desk every night. It’s a little thing, but it makes a huge difference!
I love the tip about cleaning up your desk every night. That’s a habit I want to create! 🙂
Great tips! I think sometimes we don’t stop to give ourselves a bit of organizational time… even though it would save us time in the long run. I can often get into the must-do-this, must-do that type of mode… creating more mess along the way!
Yes! It’s easy to get swept up in your to-do list.
No waaaaayyy – April made a video *all for me* and even said hello. Awesome Wednesday-ness. I read your newsletter and wondered if you were responding to my question… Thanks so much (my name is pronounced Ash-ling but I’m totally happy with your version!) Now I’m going back to listen to all those great tips and share them with my blogger friends.
YAY!!!
My husband and I sat and debated how to say your name–we were wrong! But, now I know. I’m horrible at names for some reason even when people tell me how to say it. I used to record interviews with creative entrepreneurs for a course I offered and I’d have to practice most names over and over before starting the interviews.
Thanks for sharing!
I want to hear the those edited clips, practicing my name 🙂
I don’t know a girl who doesn’t love stationery and note books and writing lots of lists and ideas. It must be a girl thing. Finding the time to do everything you learn though – tough one.
I let the ideas sit with me a little bit. The really big ones, the ones I really want to try out keep popping into my mind as I go about my day. They are the ones that go on my to-do list for the weekend when I have a bit more time. That’s when I go back over my notes or rewatch the videos and I try them out.
I keep hearing people talk about Evernote – I am going to have to check this one one. My bookmark menus on my computer are overflowing. One of the things on my to do list is to tidy my bookmarks up.
I’m excited about 2013 too – I think it is going to be a good year for me. I will start to see some results after all the work I have put in during 2012. I can’t wait to see what you have in store for us.
YES! That’s so true. The ideas that you keep thinking about are the ones you need to move over from the idea list to the to-do list.
Definitely check out Evernote. It’s super easy to figure out and learn to use and once you do, it’ll make your internet searching so much easier.
Yay for 2013! Let’s make it a year to remember.
Ohhhh…ahhhhhh…..Evernote is awesome!
Thanks for the ever-so-useful tip!
Cheers!
You’re so welcome, Robin!
