On Sunday evenings, you’ll usually find me cuddled with one of my hundred pound dogs on the couch watching a movie or reading a book.
I love my Sunday night downtime, because it helps me start the week feeling relaxed and energized.
But, I also get what I call “the Sunday night blues” every once in a while where I wish I could get a weekend do over.
I don’t feel down about the workweek starting, because I’m usually excited about what I’ve got planned for the week. But, I feel a little gloomy, because my husband was home all weekend and the next day it’s back to work for him which means less time for us to do fun things together.
I love this! I get the Sunday blues (or Sunday bummer as I call it). I’ve been planning my weekends ever since I read the book “What the Most Successful People Do on the Weekends.” Just a few anchor activities every weekend means I don’t waste time thinking about what I should do or watching reruns.
My favorite weekend activities are going to the movies, lounging around the library, or organizing epic Game Nights!
I want to read that book! It’s on my to-read list sitting there patiently waiting for me. Ohhhhh, I love a good game night. Maybe that should be on my list sometime soon!
HaHa! The end made me LOL.
Love your spirit.
I really “get” this and have always felt this way. Even as a kid, I always loved Sunday Night TV with my Dad watching a Disney special but always had that dread of bedtime coming because the weekend would be over and I had not accomplished all I needed to.
Thanks for these ideas!
Ok, my planned activities for the weekend are to make some deliveries, catch up on reading blogs I enjoy & spending time with my man!
Thanks! My husband and I try to have fun while filming my weekly videos. Why not, right?
Sounds like a fun weekend. At my house, we’re on a hunt to find the “perfect” chair for my craft studio and we’re spray painting this antique, circular shelving unit to go in there as well. 🙂
Yes, why not have fun–look at the alternative–not laughing=BORING!
My husband is a nut so he keeps things fun.
Don’t forget to share with us a pic of you “perfect” chair when you find it!

So true April, it’s so easy just to get into the habit of continuing the busyness of the week without doing anything fun!
No Sunday night blues in my house this weekend. My hubby and I are off for 2 nights at a spa resort, thanks to my lovely Mum 🙂 A very generous birthday pressie!
That sounds divine, Leanne! I hope you have an amazing weekend. And, happy birthday!!!
Gotta love a husband that is brutally honest!
We sometimes plan something for the weekend then I don’t feel like it on the day. Hmmm. I like to have a date day where my husband and I go out to lunch. He hasn’t been well so something as simple as lunch is a big deal. I think a lunch and a movie is super simple, something we love, and something we won’t take for granted.
Hahahaha, yes! Can you tell that we don’t take ourselves very seriously around here?
That happens here, too. What I’ve found is this: I try to plan things I REALLY want to do–not stuff that I think I should want to do. And, if I’m not feeling it on the day, I try anyways, because usually, the hardest part is getting ready and getting out the door. Once we do, we’re always glad we made the effort. Like a few weeks ago, a really good friend was in town and wanted to come over and hang out. That day, I didn’t feel like getting the house ready for company, you know what I mean? But, I’m so glad that I did, because we had a great time catching up–I hadn’t laughed that hard in a long time.
But, you also have to be realistic about what you’re going to feel like doing, especially if you’re sick. We usually have back up plans–like a couple weekends ago we planned antiquing but I wasn’t feeling well so we made s’mores at home instead.
The boyfriend and I fell into some tough times a few weeks ago because we weren’t spending time together. (He actually pointed this out to me.)
I’ve been extremely focused on getting personal things done and neglecting hanging out with him.
We were doing Friday night dinner for a while, but I love, love, love your idea of planning out a date — which adds variety.
A few ideas:
1.) Trip to the museum
2.) Day trip to South Pasadena to shop and eat lunch
3.) Day trip to the Brewery for some beer tasting
I’ve come to the realization that I need to enjoy the here and now WHILE I focus on where I want my life to be in the future. I have plenty to be thankful and excited for right now.
Cheers,
JK
What a great post, April! I thought I was the only one who liked to have concrete plans for the weekend, but it’s nice to see there are others out there too!
My favorite thing to do on the weekend is visit the farmers’ market and make a day of it. I’m more of the early bird in the relationship, so sometimes I will bring breakfast burritos back from the market and surprise my S.O. with breakfast in bed 🙂
@Jennifer, I read this article yesterday and thought it was wonderful. Maybe it could help inspire you as well!

I’m a big planner… I plan out pretty much everything. This weekend, well, today, I’m heading up to Traverse City MI after work so that tomorrow I can work at a snowshoe race (I’m a part time race timer- 5K, 10K, triathlons, marathons & the like, I love it!) After the race our team will get lunch somewhere & go to a couple wineries to taste & buy some wine to bring home. Then when I do get home, hubby & I are going to a bowling event for charity in the evening!
On Sunday, I’m going to take a class on using a letterpress! The class was a Christmas gift from my husband 🙂 I’m hoping to eventually incorporate some letterpress in my handbound books (at http://www.reneweduponadream.etsy.com) so I’m really excited about this!
The rest of Sunday will be spent going to church and packing to move in just a couple of weeks!!! Super full weekend this week, it’s gonna be awesome!
