Currently On My Bedside Table

- February 5, 2013 | by April -

Books

I’m a reader. I could lose myself in a book all day long every single day. And, I’m never reading just one. I usually have anywhere from 10-15 books that I’m currently reading. I don’t know why, but I love to read a chapter in one book and then a chapter in another book. One book one evening and then another book the next evening. I like to go back and forth. I used to fight it and try to make myself finish one book before opening up another, but now, I embrace it.

What are you currently reading? Anything good? I’m always looking for more recommendations.

I’m reading Jane Eyre by Charlotte Bronte right now, and I think I might read it again when I’m done!

I’m a little like you in that I have several books going at once… Probably not fifteen though ;o)

I have them in strategic places in the house in case I get a few minutes to read, and I even have one on the go on my mobile phone now 🙂

My husband is the opposite of me…he reads one book at a time and he thinks I’m a little nuts for having piles of books beside me while reading so I can switch them out as I please.

Oh…that’s a fun tip…to have one on your phone to read when you have a few minutes. I usually carry at least one book with me everywhere I go. It’s a habit that started when I was young and I haven’t grown out of it.

Ah, so many books, so little time! I’m the opposite to you I’m afraid – I can’t cope with having more than one or two books on the go at any one time!

The best books I’ve read recently are The Long Song by Andrea Levy, Room by Emma Donaghue and Life of Pi by Yann Martel. Oh, and anything by Ceclia Aherne is a great read too!

I understand–that’s my husband! He thinks I’m crazy for reading so many books at once. Thanks for all the great book recommendations–I’ve only read Life of Pi out of the ones you’ve listed…so I’m heading to Amazon right now. 🙂

Somehow I stumbled on your 45 tips to rock your art or craft blog and was hooked!! (I’m new to this genre having gone from chemist to stay-at-home-mom to riding instructor to photography and now…I’m in India running a non-profit that makes stuff from recycled saris!! But i digress…) what I really love about you now is that you are an avid reader with several books going at once. I finally made the switch to e-reader (NookColor) because I travel so much and can’t carry all my books. What I have going on my reader now is “Gone Girl” by Gillian Flynn, and I’m not one to usually read fiction but I love how she writes! Also reading “Bloggers Boot Camp” and “The Alchemist” (again); “Flow” by Mihaly Csikszentmihalyi, and “The Passionate Photography” by Steve Simon. Looking forward to learning more from your blog! Thanks!

Thanks Gayle! So glad you’re here. Wow…your journey sounds incredible! I’ve read Flow–but none of the others, so thanks for the list. I keep passing by Gone Girl in the bookstore and on Amazon and I’ve read the book jacket at least three times. I think it needs to go on my to-read list. I like reading both fiction and non-fiction at the same time. I usually only have one to two fiction books going–sometimes three, but anymore than that and I tend to get confused.

I would have never picked up “Gone Girl” but my Nook kept insisting I read it; was always in the top of lists. So I decided to give my brain a break from technical, learning kind of books. I like it because she writes really well; an enjoyable read!

And this whole time I’ve been fighting it too… with 3 books! Never mind 10 – 15 of them. I’ll try what you’re doing. So cool to know I’m not the only one. Seriously.

Yay! You’re not alone–I thought I was because no one in my family understands my crazy reading habits! 🙂

My best friend sent me the Game of Thrones books and I’m devouring them. I read book 2 in less than a month and am now into book 3. I am also reading (occasionally) Frida Kahlo’s diary, which I have owned for 15 years but never went through and read the translation of her writing. And Martha Beck’s new book. I can’t face Return of the King. My husband got me the set of 4 LOTR books back when the first movie came out. I should have read them when I was 15 because they are a chore now. But it sits there taunting me because I haven’t read it yet! Do you have book guilt, too?

I’ve got Game of Thrones on my iPod to listen to instead of read while doing dishes, laundry and the such. I haven’t started it yet, but now, I’m excited! I used to have book guilt, but I gave up on that. I allow myself to stop reading books I’m not into–I believe life’s too short and there are so many others I want to read.

I used to try to finish an entire book before starting the next one too. I only recently gave myself permission to have a few going at once. I read a lot of time management and productivity books, but I like trashy romance novels too.

I just had to organize my bedside table today because I literally had books falling off of it! I’m also usually reading several books simultaneously. I just finished a memoir “Brain on Fire: My Month of Madness” and because I will be reading another nonfiction book for my bookclub I just started to read “The Nanny Diaries” for a light, easy read. Am also trying to finish up “Blogging for Bliss” since it’s due back to the library tomorrow! Will have to check out some of those books you are reading.

I haven’t read Brain on Fire–putting that one on my to-read list. I read The Nanny Diaries a while ago. It is a light, easy read. Good to know others have overflowing beside tables! 🙂

Just finished reading Sense & Sensibility by Jane Austen. Now on to The First 50 Pages by Jeff Gerke about how to write the best first 50 pages of a novel you can possibly write. I generally like to have one self-help or knowledge/learning book going with a fiction read. I highly recommend anything by Rosamunde Pilcher, my absolutel favorite author ever. For a fun light read, I like Sophia Kinsella.

I wish I could just read all day long too April!

    🙂

Ditto on the “not the onlyone”. I am a book fiend too. And a stack next to my bedside as well as favorite chair is a MUST!!!
