My Favorite Embroidery Resources

- March 19, 2013 | by April -

Recently, I’ve begun to play around with embroidery. I’m still learning stitches and practicing, and through that, I’ve stumbled upon some books and video lessons that have been great resources.

1. Embroidery Sampler course on Creative Bug

This is my first official embroidery project that I’m tackling to learn and practice all the different stitches. If you’re a beginner to embroidery and want to learn the craft, I recommend this video course.

2. Knot Thread Stitch by Lisa Solomon

This book combines embroidery and mixed media: two things I really enjoy. If you’re a mixed media artist looking to add a new skill to your set, I recommend this book. And, if you love mixed media and embroidery, you definitely need this book.

3. Sublime Stitching by Jenny Hart

This book will guide you through all the basics from all the stitches you need to know to making your own patterns. But, the real reason I love this book is for the hundreds of iron-on patterns that are included.

Be comfortable with your machine. The most important aspect of choosing your computerized embroidery sewing machine is how comfortable you feel about its controls and viewing screen.

I actually do all embroidery by hand–not machine. But, thanks! 🙂
