One of My Favorite Things: Young Adult Fiction

- March 26, 2013 | by April -

YoungAdultFiction

I love getting swept up into another world. I crave to learn new things. I want to discover new places without traveling, because I try to avoid flying whenever possible.

These are just a few reasons that I could spend almost every day reading. If I were to retire {many years from now!}, I imagine spending most days with a good book, sipping green or chai tea.

I read all kinds of books from biographies to romance novels to nonfiction to thrillers. But, my favorite books–the ones I can’t put down and stay up until 3 am reading–are almost always young adult fiction.

Here are my top 15 favorites {in case you want to dive into some amazing stories}:

1. The Hunger Games by Suzanne Collins {Trilogy}

2. Harry Potter by J.K. Rowling {Series}

3. Divergent by Veronica Roth {Trilogy}

4. Birthmarked by Caragh M. O’Brien {Trilogy}

5. Twilight by Stephanie Meyer {Series}

6. Matched by Ally Condie {Trilogy}

7. Delirium by Lauren Oliver {Trilogy}

8. The Fault in Our Stars by John Green

9. The Unbecoming of Mara Dyer by Michelle Hodkin {Trilogy}

10. The Selection by Kiera Cass {Trilogy}

11. The Maze Runner by James Dashner {Trilogy}

12. Shatter Me by Tahereh Mafi

13. Beautiful Creatures by Kami Garcia and Margaret Stohl {Series}

14. Wither by Lauren DeStefano {Trilogy}

15. Legend by Marie Lu {Series}

Do you have a favorite YA novel? Maybe something that isn’t on this list? Please share! I’m always looking for recommendations.

    One of my favorite authors is Christopher Pike. He wrote tons of young adult books, and I probably own all of them, but he also wrote a couple of adult books, like The Cold One, Sati, The Listeners. All good reads if you like the dark side of things. He has an incredible vampire series, and I would say it matches somewhat to the “modernized” vampires of today.

    I am such a sucker for YA fiction too! Im so glad you understand the strange looks I get at the library. I am slightly embarrased by my library check out list, but I dont care, I just keep reading them! My absolute favorite is the sisterhood of the Traveling pants series. I want friends like that and magic pants! And the best part is that there is a fifth book that no one really knows about where all the girls are all grown up. It is by far the most heart wrenching book Ive ever read. Thanks for sharing these new titles, I cant wait to check some of them out!

      I tried to make the last Harry Potter book last as long as possible and I was so sad when it ended. I know exactly what you mean! 🙂

    I’m in the second book in the Pure trilogy, pretty good for YA.

    LOVED the Hunger Games, of course.

    Does that Matched trilogy get better? I have to be honest, I was very bored with the first book, though I did get through it as it got a little bit more exciting towards the end.

      I haven’t read the Pure trilogy…thanks for the tip!

      Matched is much more romance than anything else, and I thought about not reading the second one because I didn’t loooooove it {I did enjoy it–but I listened to it on my iPod while cleaning and working out}. I’m glad I kept going. There is a lot more conflict and tension in the second and third book. I liked the third book, Reached, the best out of all of them. 🙂

    Great list!
    I loved the Maze Runner books. So good. There are a couple new-to-me ones on your list. Thank you!

    I’m in the middle of a just-discovered series by Trisha Leigh. Whispers in Autumn, Winter Omens, Betrayals in Spring, and Summer Ruins.

    Really good so far.
