How to Move Past the “Thinking Phase” and Into the “Action Phase”

- August 14, 2013 | by April -

Did you know that I thought about creating Blacksburg Belle for over six months before I ever began putting the site together?

Yep, I hang my head in shame. It’s true.

I thought I needed to have my act completely together before launching this site.

I thought I needed: a $3500 website design budget, a DSLR camera, a better understanding of social media, knowledge of SEO, an accountant, etc.

Guess what? I didn’t have ANY of those things when I launched.

After months and months of contemplation, I realized that I had two choices: 1. Wait until I had everything I wanted such as professional web design for my site which could mean waiting for another year before beginning. 2. Launch before I was ready and learn as I went, so I actually build a business instead of just thinking about building this business.

While building the site and during the first couple of months, I had doubts. My inner critic said, “Yo dumb dumb…you should have waited until you actually knew what you were freaking doing. You should have done some more research. You should have had a bigger budget.”

Thank goodness I didn’t listen to that inner critic a second longer. To this day, my biggest regret is not starting sooner.

Even though I didn’t think I was ready, I was.

With my story in mind, watch today’s video, because I want to help you move from the “thinking phase” into the “action phase” so that you’re not wondering how this year flew by and why you didn’t do more when January 1st creeps up on you.

What are you waiting for? Are you committed to taking action NOW? If so, let me know in the comments below.

Oh my gosh. Such a confirming kick in the pants. I’ve been stalling on something for almost a year, and I finally starting realizing I’ll never “feel” ready & I started working on it this month.

And I’m crossing my fingers that a slot will be open Sept 1st. We will have funds then!!! *fingers AND toes crossed*

This is so true! I probably spent over a year thinking about my business before I actually got round to starting it! (which is crazy) Just go for it! And the best way to learn something is to have a go anyway, it might not have the best result first time but then you learn how to do it better 🙂

Wauw, must be the universe helping me out (as Marie Forleo said)! Great timing! Will make that list today, so I can start working on Monday when the kids go back to school. I will be back in business in no time! Thanks so much!

It took me way more than one year to finally start my business!
I had a lot of doubt and felt that I wasn’t ready, etc.
I am glad that I did finally get started, but I still have a lot to learn!

I haven’t met anyone who didn’t have doubt…I think that’s natural and it holds so many people back from getting started! I’m still learning–I think the key is to never stop learning!

I did what I like to call a “clunky start”. It wasn’t glamorous, it wasn’t perfect but I had the courage to take that very first step. And I honestly believe the first step is the hardest. Because each step after builds on the one before. You get more confident, you build momentum and things start to click together.

I’m feeling a bit stagnant and kind of have an idea on what’s next. Doing the list and then breaking it down is going to help me a lot. I think you can get in a rut of “I know what I’m doing”, but it’s a constant thing. Reviewing, trying new things, looking at the next step or a different way to do things. Guess I know what I’m doing this weekend 🙂

PS – Hmmm- what’s going on with the carrot song this week? A sneak peak of Blacksburg Belle – The Musical. Coming soon 🙂 bwahhaha

      So true!

I’ve been in that rut. It’s easy to fall into that rut when you’re just thinking about the day-to-day things.

Hahahahahaha…Kris was like, “I’ve got the best song ever to share with this week’s video. You’re going to love it.” Then, at the end of taping he sang it…such a cute dork! 🙂

Yes! I love this. I break my tasks down into teeny tiny itsy bitsy baby steps all the time. I’d never get anything done if I didn’t make each steps as small and easy as possible.
