You know the feeling when you pick up the phone and get news that shakes you to your core–so much that you feel as if everything around you is moving in slow motion?
All your priorities become clear and all the small stuff that you were stressing over thirty minutes ago becomes irrelevant.
Yesterday, when I saw my husband’s name pop up on my cell phone screen a few minutes before a business-related meeting, I answered cheerily.
The first words out of his mouth were, “I’ve just been in a bad car accident.”
The world fell out from under my feet.
After he said that he wasn’t seriously injured, I barely heard anything else.
The entire front of the car on the driver’s side was crushed in, leaving our car totaled. The airbags deployed. The other driver’s car was totaled, but she wasn’t hurt either. It could’ve been so much worse.
It reminded me that my world could be turned upside down at any moment and that I need to make the most of every single day which leads into today’s video.
I know how precious life is every minute because my life took a 360 degree change. I’m grateful for what I have, my most precious is my husband, otherwise I have nothing. At the suggestion of Aeolidia one day, I accepted the challenge to turn all the dings in different tones off. I love it to the point that I don’t even carry my phone when I go out, which is not often. I’m mindful of not humiliating myself on Twitter so spend as little time as possible. I cannot work, I have no money, so there is no reason to go outside. I do read articles on Facebook, try and get my company out there. I’d love a business fix and make some money.
I’m just now deleting a game I’m addicted to. Thank you for the kick in the pants that I needed today. -Lynni
I’m so glad your husband and the other driver were not seriously hurt.
My husband and I were in an accident some months ago… our car was totalled, the other driver’s vehicle was ok. In our case too, it could have been MUCH worse…
I am still extra scared out there on the road, though.
Anyway… that’s a difficult, but good challenge.
You and your husband are such a delightful couple. I am very happy for you that he was not injured. Many years ago my brother and his new bride were killed in a head-on collision two weeks after their wedding so the knowledge of how fragile life can be has always been paramount in my mind. Treasure each day, enjoy each moment, and keep doing the wonderful job that you do which inspires and motivates so many people.
1) Glad to hear all are OK!
2) What a great challenge! Ready, Set, Go… I’m up for the challenge!!
So glad to hear that your husband wasn’t injured! Scary stuff.
Thanks also for the reminder to focus on activities that will move my business forward, rather than mindlessly looking at stuff online 🙂
Thank goodness no-one was seriously hurt. Still scary though! I was struggling to keep up with tweets and their links to blog posts etc. Then there was the trying to connect and share my stuff and build a following. Blurgh. I felt awkward and flustered and knackered from trying to keep up. It was taking the fun out of everything. So I stepped away, kept blogging and found a quick, easier and more authentic way of being social. Abby that’s better. And since doing that, great things have happened which wasn’t happening before. Ooh, the Universe has a way of pointing you in the right direction, doesn’t it?
I was strugling to remember all the words of the pledge too – hubby did a great job.
I love your Wednesday wisdom videos – even though i get them on a Thursday morning 🙂
At your suggestions in the past few weeks I have been getting up earlier, not using my private Facebook page between 6pm and 6am and so now this week I promise not to mindlessly stare at my computer/phone/ipod and to turn down the volume on my phone so I don’t run to it everytime an email/tweet/facebook notification/sms arrives.
This is so very liberating. Thank you April.
Oh my gosh, that’s so scary! Thank goodness your husband and the other driver are OK. You’re right that we need to make the most of every day.
I have a weird relationship with social media. I’m probably not as social as I should be. I schedule my posts with HootSuite and only spend a few minutes on Facebook and Twitter each day.
Thanks again April, you remind us how important is our time and we must no waste it.
So glad to hear everyone is OK! That is so scary! April, your videos always seem to be very timely for me! I’m always grateful for the reminder that time is valuable.
I’m so glad to hear the your husband and the other driver weren’t injured!
I’ve been changing my mindset and have begun to think like someone who is on top of their game in their field. It totally changes everything even down to the way I dress and I’ve noticed how productive I’ve become. I’ve been also able to concentrate more on important tasks and actually get them done! And that’s huge for a recovering procrastinator 🙂
I try to limit my time on social media to about 10 mins a day or every other day or I’ll do 1 week without it if I’m really in the zone with an important project, like you suggested in a previous video.
