My Favorite Books From This Month

- September 17, 2013 | by April -

Books-September-2013

These are my favorite books that I’ve read over the past month. I highly recommend each one. They aren’t in any specific order–I just followed the picture above.

1. Daily Rituals by Mason Currey: I love reading about how other artists work {or don’t work}, and this book is filled with their daily rituals. From Jane Austen to Pablo Picasso to Albert Einstein: read this book to find out how they spent their time.

2. The Autoimmune Epidemic by Donna Jackson Nakazawa: Every woman should read this book, whether or not they suffer from an autoimmune disease. You’ll understand it so much better and get lots of information on how to shield your immune system. I wish I had read this book years ago.

3. Fallen by Lauren Kate: I picked up this young adult book, because it was on sale for $4.99 at my local Barnes and Noble. I finished it in two days, because I couldn’t put it down. I read it while feeling pretty sick, but while reading, I didn’t even pay attention to the fever or muscle aches–that’s how much I enjoyed this book. I’ve already ordered the second in the series.

4. Unraveling by Elizabeth Norris: I’m a young adult fiction junkie and this book has been on my to-read list for months. Once I picked it up, I couldn’t stop devouring it. It’s a mix of thrills, romance, science fiction, and nonstop action. I’ve uploaded the sequel onto my iPod to listen to while I walk my dogs. If you like young adult fiction, I think you’ll love this one.

    Hi!

Hope you’re feeling better and that the fever and muscle-aches are gone by now…

Books with well written stories do have the power to transport you into a different and special world, as they get you caught in their web! For me this month that happened with “Witheout” by Ken Follet. It’s a pretty interesting thriller with a bunch of unexpected twists. I had to force myself to stop reading it after a chapter or two in order to get to do all the other things I needed to do, but still every single free moment I had I grabbed it again…

    Happy reading!

    Cathy

oooh thanks! I always love getting book recs. I’ve read Fallen but Unraveling is new to me. It’s on my list!

I just finished reading The Twelve which is book 2 in a trilogy that started with The Passage. Loved it! by Justin Cronin.

Also, just started The Night Circus by Erin Morgenstern and I am really enjoying it so far.

Wool by Hugh Howey is a must-read too! It started as a short story on Kindle then expanded to (I think) 5 parts. I believe they’ve been published all together in paperback. So so good!

Thanks for all the recommendations! I’ve read The Night Circus…but none of the others, so I’m adding them all to my amazon wish list now! 🙂

Sorry you haven’t been feeling so good. 🙁 Books always seem to distract me when I’m feeling sick or just having a bad day. Hope you feel better soon.

I think I’ll check out Daily Rituals. I’m really interested in how other creative people go about their days. Thanks for sharing!

It’s really interesting…I read about about ten a day {there are soooooooo many in the book} until I finished and it was something I looked forward to each day.

I love these suggestions… thank you, April. Can’t wait to check them out. I am currently reading Just Kids by Patti Smith – her memoir that starts in 1960s New York – and it’s an amazing book. I totally recommend it, especially for anyone pursuing the creative life. How she got her start is just fascinating.

You’re so welcome! That sounds like a memoir I need to read. I absolutely love memoirs but whenever I rummage through that section in the bookstore, I never really see anything that catches my eye. But, whenever I stumble across something {like a suggestion from a friend}, I usually love it. I also just finished The Middle Place by Kelly Corrigan and it was sooooo good–heartbreaking, hysterical and consuming!

Oh, those first two books look super-intersting to me. Will put them on my wishlist! And by the way – thanks so much for talking about books on your blog. I LOVE books and always love getting recommendations.

Oh, and if you happen to run out of books – one of my absolute favourites is Steering by starlight by Martha Beck. (That is if you have not read that one yet. *laugh*) I love Martha Beck and everything she write. (Even mentioned her in my last blog post.) Am working my way through all her books – love her that much. She also has such a fun writing style that totally cracks me up.

Right now I am reading Daring greatly by Brene Brown. Have not read all the way through it yet, but would also definitely recommend it.

I haven’t read too many Martha Beck books, so I’ll look into Steering by Starlight.

I’ve read Daring Greatly and loooooved it! I also really loved The Gifts of Imperfection by Brene Brown. I think I might have liked that one a little more than Daring Greatly, but they are both on my “I want to read these again” list. 🙂
