Writing is built into my blood vessels. I feel lost when I don’t.
I could snap and edit pretty photos all day long.
It gives me a platform to share my oh-so-important thoughts with the world.
Blogging allows me to sell my products and courses, so I don’t have to work for someone else. Score!
It allows me to work from home in my comfy pajamas or a cute Anthropologie romper, depending on my mood.
It grants me an excuse to buy fresh flowers for my desk.
Blogging challenges me to better—to be someone worth following.
It provides a reason to scour Pinterest for hours. (Check out and follow my boards here.)
It justifies my addiction to experimenting with color, prints and patterns.
It gives me that gushy “I’m-making-a-difference” feeling.
Blogging helps me focus my thoughts into bite-sized, consumable pieces.
It makes it more likely that my husband will support me when I tell him I wanna buy that light pink vintage camera because it would look darling in my photos.
It gives me a way to share the creative aspects of my life with other creatives.
It pushes me to write better and more often.
It helps me develop my unique voice.
But, really, my main reason for blogging is: it gives me a way to connect with YOU.
Now, I’m turning the mic over to you: Why do you blog?
Please share your reasons in the comments below!
I blog because I love to share my enthusiasm…and because I love the written word…And because I want you to love art as much as I do. http://Www.cindymichaudart.blogspot.com
I blog because I get such loving feedback…
Love your reasons, Cindy! Thanks for sharing.
I have not written for my blog in ages….though I want to. I love looking at all the beautiful, creative blogs out there, but need more of a push to re-start mine.
I think your blogging workshop is just the boost I need! Thanks for sharing:)
Awesome! So excited you’ll be joining me. Let’s reignite that blogging fire in you. 🙂
I’ve been in the process of building my website through course in web development (I really doing this) with a goal writing about food and cooking with creating recipes. Cooking is hard work and a great joy of mind (learn how to cook at the age of 11). This is a work-in-progress because I’m always learning something new about cooking and food.
Until your class comes in May, I will build the website (may be an app), read the book “Daily Rituals” by Mason Currey and “Die Empty” by Todd Henry, continue writing down ideas, and get some rest as I going to need to make this work.
Sounds like a great plan, Sheri! I’m so happy you’ll be joining me for my workshop.
P.S. I loooooove to cook. It’s almost like meditating for me while I’m chopping, slicing, sautéing, etc.
Particularly when you are using your hands for making meatballs or baking bread. I get great ideas while cooking. Cooking and walking are idea generators for me.
Absolutely. I get great ideas when I’m cooking, too. (Well, as long as I leave the tv off!)
You just motivated me to get started on my blog. Great post. Thanks, April!
Yay! That’s exactly what I was hoping to do. You’re so welcome.
I love to blog to provide information to my audience and especially to connect with them. It also enables me to have another creative outlet and for my audience to get to know me better.
All amazing reasons! Thanks for sharing.
I blog because I could write for hours on end and not look up at the clock. I blog because I want to build my own business and need the credibility…which leads me to blogging because I believe I have unique ideas to share with others. I also blog because I hope to make a difference in someone’s world, even if it is a small one. 🙂
Love all of these reasons.
I’m with you: I could write for hours without knowing that hours have passed. I often realize it once my neck starts to ache and I look at the clock and think, “Oh, that’s why my neck feels like it’s about to fall off my head. Because I’ve been sitting here for four hours. Whoops.”
I used to blog and then life fell apart and blogging fell off my plate. I’m working on getting back into the old blogging but I want to make sure I’m clear on what I want to achieve.
What I miss about blogging is the great feeling of putting something of value out there for free and then having people actually engage with my ideas. It’s absolutely amazing to when you get feedback that says your blog made a difference.
In short, I like having a purpose beyond making money at my 9-5.
Yes! Love this, Lisa.
That gushy feeling I get whenever someone says, “This helped me…” makes it all worth it. It’s the best.
Hey April! I blog because I love sharing my passion and connecting with the women who read my blog! I think about them when I write and hope that the information I provide resonates with them or benefits them in other ways.
Actually, I implemented one of your blog writing suggestions in a previous post to print out my blog post and edit it! That effort paid off because it quickly became the most popular post on my site! It was from the heart. Thanks for that!!
Looking forward to your workshop!!!!
Okay, you just put the BIGGEST smile on my face EVER! I’m sooooooo happy that following my suggestions made that post the most popular post on your site! That’s amazing–totally and completely amazing.
I blog, because I dream of making a difference. Still crossing my fingers on that.
You never know who is reading your post and getting something out of it. Most readers don’t comment and many never tell you that you make a difference to them. That doesn’t mean that you aren’t already.
P.S. I know this to be absolutely true, because I receive emails like this all the time: “I never comment or respond to your emails, but I’ve been reading your blog for over a year and I just had to say that you’ve made such a huge difference to my confidence and business. Thank you!”
Thank you! That does make me feel better..analytics show I’m not getting much readership though.
That’s probably because I get discouraged, and start second guessing myself. I need to stop that, and just believe in the process.
I blog because I’m pretty sure my mind would explode if I didn’t. 🙂 It’s also a way for me to process the changes going on in my life in hopes that I can inspire other people to make changes in their lives.
Well, we definitely don’t want your mind exploding! 🙂 Keep blogging, girl!
I love sharing the projects I make (handmade books and cards) and inspiring others to make things too.
I love those kinds of blogs! I’m checking yours out now. 🙂
I’m just starting to blog because I really want to share the amazing things I learn from animals when I create intuitive pastel soul portraits of them. And it would be nice to find those people and animals who are ideally a great fit and can benefit from my work! I will definitely be joining your workshop 🙂 http://www.ivonneplankey.com
Hey Ivonne! Thanks for the introduction to your work and why you blog. I’m so excited that you’ll be joining me for my workshop. I hope you get a TON out of it. 🙂
I started my blog at the beginning of this year. I especially love the fact that thinking about my blog posts actually leads to more creative ideas for my business. The two activities feed off each other. Sewing and embroidery projects become blog posts and the process of writing blog posts leads to more design ideas – it’s a win-win! I would love to do your blogging workshop but midnight to 7am here in sunny Perth, Western Australia is a tough ask – my brain simply doesn’t function in the wee small hours. I might need to pay for anytime access instead 🙂
That’s very true! Thanks for including that reason!
I completely understand! My brain shuts off around 11pm and doesn’t start working again until the next morning. 🙂
Congrats April on your CreativeLIVE event! That’s amazing 🙂 I’ll be blogging on my own blog next month hopefully. Just bought my domain name (so exciting!), picked out my blog theme, and I have a year’s worth of prep work from your amazing Blogging course. By the way, your course was such a massive help by taking me from ” uhh…what do I blog about? and how do I even set-up a blog ?” to complete clarity. Thank you!
Thanks, Tabassum! I’m really excited.
That’s wonderful news. I’m happy for you!!! Reading about your updates and progress always puts a smile on my face. You’ve been an incredible supporter of my business for a long time and I appreciate it.
I’m so glad that you got so much out of my blogging course. 🙂
Thank you!
Wow…hmmm why do I blog?
I blog to connect with people
I blog to help people get to know me before working with me
I blog to share information and help inspire others
I blog to share my unique view of the world from behind my lens
I blog to promote my art and my business
I blog to recognize others
I blog to write
I blog to create
…and so many more reasons!
I blog because I love talking about interior design. I like to break down all the elements in the room and explain why they work. I really love to look at beautiful things and try to figure out why that particular item evokes a positive reaction from me. Creating a beautiful space can be as simple as creating a beautiful paragraph. It’s a process. I count it a privilege to help people enjoy their homes. I’ve been watching you on Creative Live and I’m excited to start implementing your suggestions. Thanks so much!
Hello April,
I wanted to thank you for the wonderful CreativeLive workshop! I’m taking your advice as we speak and I’m making a conscious effort to give thanks to all the wonderful people whose work I admire and respect.
To respond to your prompt… why do I blog?
I blogged on and off since 10 years ago, for various reasons.
In my current blog I do it to share what I know with other creative people, because pursuing this path is not easy, and we need all the help we can get.
For years I learned from other bloggers and book authors about happiness, business, relationships, artistic skills… and now I feel ready give something back.
I’ve already gotten some great feedback from my readers, so I’m very motivated to continue and your advice will come in handy.
