B-School: Is It the Right Fit for You?

- February 17, 2016 | by April -

$1999. Not the kind of thing you can find digging in the couch cushions.

I know it’s crazy scary to invest that amount of money into education for your business–like I need an adult diaper crazy scary.

But, you’re not going to get far if you’re not willing to invest in your business. With that said, you want to make the right investments.

You should spend money on education when you need more education. You should spend money on improving your website when your website no longer works for your business. You should spend money on a new camera when you’re a product-based business needing to update your product photos.

It’s difficult to figure out what to invest in, to know what’s going to pay off and what isn’t.

I wish there was a business fairy godmother that would show us the way, telling us, “This is the year you should join B-School” or “You need to buy a DSLR this month.” If we knew exactly what would help us reach our business dreams, it would be so much easier.

I’m going to try my best to be your fairy godmother today with the video below. I tell you my opinions on who should register for B-School and who should skip it. I hope it helps you make the best decision for yourself and your business.

Week Titles-2

UPDATE: On a live call answering questions, Marie said that she might not offer B-School again in this way next year. The last time she said that was the last year she hosted her conference, Rich Happy and Hot Live, so she doesn’t usually say something like that lightly. If you were thinking you’d wait until next year, you shouldn’t put it off if you really want the opportunity.

The most common question I receive from people who don’t know whether they should join B-School is: Is it just going to be stuff I already know?

While I answered this in the video, I want to expand a bit more.

This question doesn’t have a very simple answer.

Yes, if you’ve taken business courses before, some of the concepts won’t be new to you. Any good business course covering online marketing is going to cover: email marketing, blogging, getting to know your target market, etc. But, no one course is the same. They cover the same concepts in different ways, using different examples. So, while some of the strategies won’t be brand new, they aren’t taught in the same way.

And, B-School isn’t just about the modules. That’s a huge part of it, but it’s also about: the live calls with Marie (that she tends to stay on for three hours or more), the community of entrepreneurs who are all working towards the same things (which is worth the cost of admission in my opinion), the bonus materials (like the do it yourself WordPress training and the marketing for product-based businesses bonus).

Not to mention that if you join through an affiliate that’s offering a bonus package, you get additional stuff for free. The bonus package that Mayi and I are offering includes eight weeks of mastermind calls where we share all the behind-the-scenes details of our businesses. That’s invaluable.

If you’re only joining to learn the ‘next hot thing’ that’s going to make you successful, B-School isn’t for you. If all you can think about is ‘what if I know this stuff already’ and you don’t see the value in everything you get with B-School, it’s not for you.

But, if you’re worried that B-School won’t meet your expectations, I wouldn’t.

B-School has changed so many lives for the absolute better. It can do the same thing for you. Marie Forleo is the real deal. She’s built a multi-million dollar business. She’s been interviewed by Oprah. She hangs out with Richard Branson. She employs a team of people. And, if you want to learn from the best, it’s going to be an investment–not a drop in the bucket.

Have more questions? Join Mayi and I on February 24th at 4pm EST for a happy hour where we discuss all things B-School and answer all of your questions. Click the blue “remind me” button to receive a reminder on the day of the call.

Are you a B-School alum wishing that you could somehow join us for our B-School bonus? We’ve got an option for you right here.

When I click on the link on your B-School Bonus Page, the url it goes to just says: http://marieforleobschool.com/enroll/. I want to make sure I’m doing the affiliate link. Is this correct?

      YAY Marina!

Yes, as long as you click directly from that link you’ll be fine! It redirects you to the B-School page but stores it as a cookie that you’ve clicked on our link. 🙂

Here’s the exact link for you: http://marieforleo.ontraport.net/t?orid=2238&opid=228

You can copy and paste that into your browser and that will absolutely work.

If you have any other questions, just let me know.

Love it!!! I think I will be ready for something like this in another year, maybe two. It sounds so exciting! You are so right about needing to be in a space where you’re available mentally and emotionally to put in the work. I feel like I have more than enough on my plate to handle right now, and adding something else would just be too much. Especially something like this.

I thought seriously about applying for the scholarship program, but then I had to be realistic about the commitment I could make right now. I don’t want to waste the opportunity, because I’m already so overloaded.I hope you and Mayi will have the same Mastermind when it’s my turn to participate. What an incredible experience! Congratulations to the lucky people who get to do that!

I think that’s a really good decision for you, Patty! You definitely already have a ton of stuff going on and a lot to work on. B-School might be the right thing for you next year.

I’m hoping Mayi and I will continue to offer a bonus together, too. I have so much fun working with her during the eight weeks of B-School. And, it’s always more fun to do something like this with a talented friend. 🙂

I was one of those who wrote about all of the classes I had taken. However, seeing what Marie is actually teaching–and not just the list of 6 pillars–makes me re-think it. I think I probably need someone to help me pull it all together. I am still trying to work out money issues but I do make the jump, your link is the only bonus package that seems to be relevant to what I need to do. So. thanks!!!!

Hey Sherry! You’re not alone. That’s the most common question I get. That’s why I wanted to expand on it after the video. I felt like there are two different camps when it comes to that question. Camp one: I’m not going to appreciate the value of B-School because I’m just going to pick apart everything I already knew so I shouldn’t take it. Camp two: I just want to make sure I’m making a wise investment.

And, I completely understand wanting to make a wise investment.

I’d love to see you in the mastermind group. 🙂

Hi April, I first discovered you through Creatuve Live and still have yet to finish your blogging course! It’s really amazing and the way you teach is so inspiring…. Thank you!
So, I’m on the fence about B-school, even after watching your video addressing these concerns. You mentioned if there wasn’t a clear idea of where I wanted my business to go that B-school wouldn’t be right for me? Well, I just recently started, launched a website and though I have some content – I’m not entirely sure where to put my focus? I keep hovering around illustration, graphic design, fine art, teaching art classes…etc…. Perhaps I should wait a year and see what specifically I need to focus on?? I know if I took the course I’d be committed and put in my all. I’m just not sure if I’m going to get the most out of it at this time with not knowing where to put my focus? Does that make sense? Is there any advice you could offer? Would really appreciate your honest feedback? Thanks in advance!!

      Hello April,
you say that if you have not started a business yet B School should be put on hold… looking at Marie’s page i see this : ” START THE RIGHT BUSINESS

Are you struggling to figure out which business to start? Maybe you have too many ideas and can’t choose, or maybe you’re not sure if your idea will actually work. If you’re drowning in entrepreneurial confusion, this program provides a step-by-step roadmap to clarity and will help you finally start the right business for you – a profitable and purposeful business you love.”
I a bit confused probably because of me not being a native english speaking person. Is that module part of the B School Program or is it a different thing ?

I am in the process of chosing from different things i would like to do so.. the link on the website will lead you to a constructing web… sorry 😉

Hi Cati! Thanks for commenting. 🙂

Yes, she does provide a bonus on choosing the right business which is awesome of her (and you get access to it pretty much right after you sign up). I just think it’s really overwhelming to start B-School without any idea of what you want to do business-wise. The homework starts week one and if you don’t have a business to work on, you might feel really frustrated by everyone else who’s working through everything together. I know I’d be frustrated.

There are plenty of people who join B-School without a clear picture of what they want to do with their businesses, but I’m just being honest about what I’d feel (and what I’ve heard from some people who join without businesses).

That doesn’t mean you should wait if you feel B-School is really the right thing for you. I just think that most people who don’t already have an idea of what they want their businesses to look like should consider waiting.

Mayi and I will talk about this more during our happy hour call if you want to join us. 🙂

Hi Neesha! Thanks for the kind words.

Okay, you sound like you’re in a good place to start B-School. Since you’ve already launched your website and worked on some content, you’ll be able to do all of the homework assignments. I’ve found that if you can’t work through the homework with everyone else, it’s harder to do on your own.

It seems like the stage that you’re in would be a good fit for going through the bonus Marie includes (that you get access to pretty much right away when you join) about starting the right business. You’ve already started your business but that bonus would help you figure out where to focus.

      I hope that helps some!

You should jump on the happy hour call with Mayi and I on February 24th if you have the time. I could talk a bit more in depth on figuring out your focus and how this impacts B-School. 🙂

Hi April. Thank you for the video! I really want to do B School and I feel that I’m ready to commit. Although I’m still having trouble finding my exact target audience. Will B School be a good fit for that? Or should I have a better understanding of who my target audience is first? Thank you!

      Hey Tara! Awesome question.

In the first week of B-School, Marie covers this topic and you’ll work through homework assignments that REALLY help with getting a better understanding of your target market. That was one of the homework assignments that helped me more than anything actually.

If you have any other questions, I’m happy to answer. 🙂

Okay, I have been going nuts over BSchool.

Can I afford it right now? Heck no…after 2 months of medical leave I have nothing left financially (but, it has afforded me a very clear vision on what is important and what I want)
Do I know it will get me where I want to go? Yes, absolutely but it will only work if I do.

I have applied for the scholarships that are offered and am crossing fingers, toes, and everything crossable that I get to be one of the lucky few who are chosen.

Either way, I am getting organized as if I am taking the course and carving out time in my schedule for working ON my business instead of just IN my business this year. It’s time to build and grow!

I love the positivity of planning as if you’re taking the course. That’s such a great mindset. High five, Rebecca!
